How to Write a Swimming Pool - Part 2

How to Write a Swimming Pool…Part 2… with Your Blog

So you think condensing your idea into one neat line isn’t your cup of tea?

Or, perhaps, you think you can do both?

Now, that we know which direction the wind blows, let’s get to it, shall we?

But first:

How do you get a great blog idea?

I’m not talking of the posts, but the big blog idea…

Here’s how:

Set aside two hours every day to give it a think…

Let’s be upfront here: The purpose of any blog is to make money, although you may not see it that way in the beginning. But if you do wish to monetize your blog, choose a product. Not the “do it yourself” kind and neither the “how-to” blogs.

Think of a product. Say, a blog on cameras? On a particular brand? And spin a yarn around it, some in jest, but always teasing the reader to go on and give it a try…

Be careful what you choose. You have to think of the first post of the rest of your blog and then write about it! (Hee-haw!)

Then set aside the same two hours to think up some ideas for the posts. Try to have a certain amount like half a year’s worth of ideas, so that you don’t have a writer’s block right in the middle of the proceedings!
(Tsk, tsk!)

Once you get the idea, it all falls into place pretty easily. Write it as a one line summary of the idea on your computer screen and get to work with the first.

Don’t worry about the errors. Just write until you finish, which should be around 20 minutes.

Take another 20 minutes to edit the post and while you are at it, think up a nice headline for it.
Make sure that the flow of thought comes easily.

Humor is a tricky business: what’s funny for you may be not to the other!

But if you are confident there’s nothing like it to make your blog stand out.

Many writers are plagued with the topic of pay by the hour, word or by the idea? I would have to go with the latter. Take as long or short a time as it needs to get your idea across neatly.

Create a voice for the blog, with which the reader identifies as in…

(Hint, hint: this one?) (Wink, wink!)

Until you figure that one out, I urge you to come up with some of your own as your suggestions in the space below.

Until the next,

Adieus!
